Apex Basic keeps the focused student workspace, parent-approved destinations, requests, and school tools available. Because a web app cannot control activity outside itself, add the Chrome Extension for stronger browser-level guardrails or follow the Windows Student Mode pilot as Apex develops its higher-control family device option. Existing protection does not simply disappear when a trial ends.

Why Windows Student Mode provides deeper control
The Extension protects the browser. Student Mode also protects the space around it.
The Apex Chrome Extension is a strong browser-protection layer: it manages destinations, redirects unapproved routes, and reports supported activity inside Chrome. Chrome does not give an extension authority over the Windows desktop, taskbar, other browsers, or unrelated applications. Windows Student Mode adds deeper operating-environment control through a dedicated standard account. Its independent recovery supervisor is now built and undergoing hands-on validation before broader release.

Windows Student Mode is the higher-control family pilot for reducing access to the rest of the computer; its new independent recovery supervisor is being validated before broader release.

No. The address opens the focused Apex workspace, but a website cannot control other browser tabs or Windows applications. Parents must also install the Chrome Extension for browser-level controls. Windows Student Mode is a family pilot for a dedicated Windows student session. Its protected startup and independent recovery supervisor are currently undergoing hands-on validation.
With supported Chrome protection active, an unapproved destination is redirected back to Apex. Parent-approved websites continue to open normally.

Existing protection does not suddenly disappear. Existing devices and safety rules remain active, while paid capabilities such as additional device approvals and new chat messages can become limited. Parents retain access to subscribe, export information, switch users, or safely remove Student Mode.
No. It uses a separate standard Windows account for students. The parent administrator account remains available through Ctrl+Alt+Delete and Windows user switching.
Not without Google-managed ChromeOS enrollment. The Extension can strengthen Chrome browsing controls, but an unmanaged Chromebook does not provide the same device-level control as Windows Student Mode.
No browser extension can honestly promise that. Apex blocks and reports supported known routes, including known AI and Google Lens destinations, while rules continue to improve through testing.
